HAVE YOU NOT
SEEN THIS PERSON

2023
screen printed synthetic polymer paint on paper

The work consists of a series of monochrome screen prints on A3 paper. Each print takes the form of a poster, with a bold, capitalised headline: "Have You Not Seen This Person." At the center of the poster is a square containing a pixelated, black-and-white image of a smiling woman with short hair.

Afra utilises AI-generated portraits to create "missing-person" posters, prompting viewers to reflect on the capabilities and authenticity of AI-generated images. The posters are intended for display in public spaces with high foot traffic, encouraging engagement and dialogue about the role of synthetic personas in today's technologically driven world.

The depiction of a Caucasian-presenting female figure is influenced by the "missing white woman syndrome," a phenomenon in which media disproportionately focuses on missing or endangered white women while often neglecting marginalised communities. By deliberately choosing this representation, Afra draws attention to systemic biases of societal attitudes embedded within contemporary AI systems.
